ACN x within

AI agents are only as good as the context they're given. Most companies don’t have much to give them.

That’s especially true for legacy enterprises that have years of entrenched ways of working trapped in people’s heads.

Even when businesses invest in formal documentation, it only logs the “happy path.” The processes, exceptions, and workarounds that shape day-to-day operations are rarely written down, making it impossible for an agent to understand how teams get work done.

As a partner to 9,000+ enterprise clients globally, Accenture understands the challenge all too well.

The most common consultancy ask these days is for help in onboarding AI agents that move faster, cost less, and make fewer mistakes, so employees can focus on higher-level work — the kind that only humans are good at.

But Accenture knows that there is a missing context layer that needs to be built before agents can succeed and that requires an AI workflow automation platform.

The company’s latest Pulse of Change survey of more than 3,000 C-suite leaders found that 82% are increasing their investment in AI. Yet only 23% report achieving widespread, sustained business value from the technology. And things are only getting worse—that number dropped 9 points from 32% earlier this year.

It’s never a good sign when the arrow points down and to the right. Accenture saw this dip across its client base and went in search of enterprise process mapping software. They were looking for a strategic partnership that could, in their words, capture the operational knowledge that is a prerequisite for effective AI deployment. That led them to Within. Together, we’re setting out to help client organizations map, enhance, and automate their business processes and operations.

“One of the most persistent challenges in AI transformation is that organizations often don’t have a clear picture of the starting point — the actual processes, the exceptions, how work actually flows through their teams,” said Jason Dess, Accenture’s Industry and Process Reinvention Lead.

How Within Works

Within observes the work, not the workers — maintaining privacy as it defines opportunities to deploy AI agents. Information about how work gets done is automatically compiled into a Work Brain — a continuously updated context layer for agentic work that AI agents rely upon to deliver real, measurable efficiencies and ROI.

“What Within surfaced was the real process, not the one on the diagram—the hidden workarounds, the manual steps, the informal patches our people had built to get the job done,” said David Benjamin, EVP and Chief Commercial Officer, Blackbaud, an Accenture client. “You can't reinvent what you can't see. Accenture and Within gave us that visibility, and the plan to act on it.”

As businesses evolve, Accenture’s client organizations can use Within to build AI agents, identify automation opportunities, and improve workflows across finance, HR, sales, marketing, customer service, IT, supply chain, procurement, and commercial operations. It’s a layer of IT modernization software that can stack on top of any enterprise system.

We are excited to learn from Accenture’s expertise and scale in AI delivery and to bring Within’s agentic work capabilities to the entire client base.

“AI transformation works best when there’s a system of record of work to provide visibility on what to automate and the ability to verify that agents are doing their work the right way,” says Andrew Antos, Within CEO and Co-Founder. “This partnership gives Accenture clients access to that system, so they can reap real business value. People and agents working in harmony is the future of work.”
